Larvik Struggling to Win
Larvik HK's incredible unbeaten run in the domestic league almost came to a halt on Wednesday evening. The Norwegian champions were down 12-10 at half-time and only went ahead in the closing minutes to land a narrow 24-23 away win against Byaasen in Trondheim.
Both Katja Nyberg and Tonje Larsen were spared in attack for the visiting side whose leading scorer was Kari Mette Johansen with 6 goals.

Randers: Hoffmann Coming
Olga Hoffmann's switch to Randers HK is official. The Fox Team Nord keeper has signed a three-year deal with the club.
On Randers' web site, it is maintained that the transfer has nothing to do with the speculation surrounding Christine Lindemann and her possible future in Sönderjyske HK.
Olga Hoffmann is 27 years old. Aside from Fox Team Nord, her previous clubs include Ferencváros and Cornexi Alcoa.

Randers: Milanovic Leaving
Tanja Milanovic confirmed on Monday that she will be saying goodbye to Randers HK after a single season with the club. The Serbian backcourter used an option in her contract to terminate the engagement after one year.
The powerful left back is headed in Ikast's direction instead.
"I have to think about my career, and I think I will improve next season in Ikast. It's not just about money, because Randers has paid me well, and everyone has treated me nicely," Milanovic explains to local paper Randers Amtsavis.

GOG Hold On to Nagy
Krisztina Nagy has extended her stay in Gudme. After some discussion back and forth, the Hungarian right back has reached an agreement with the club for a two-year renewal of her contract.
"She's a very important player to us and has really shown her great potiental in collaboration with the new coach Bert Bouwer. Particularly in the away victory over Viborg HK where she scored 9 goals," GOG's managing director Arne Buch tells TV 2.
The 26-year-old, who is a former Gyõr player, began her career in Denmark with Kolding before moving to GOG.

Spain Outdo Norway Again
Spain once again had the better of Norway when the two nations collided in Norway for three tests between Friday and Sunday. Spain won two of the three encounters to maintain bragging rights.
The Spaniards surprisingly denied Norway a place at the Olympic Games after defeating them at the World Championship in a tough battle for fifth position.
Fielding no less than 9 debutants, Norway relied on a inexperienced side for the friendlies against Spain. Kristine Lunde scored 18 goals over the extended weekend.
Fri: Norway - Spain 25-27 (12-12)
Sat: Norway - Spain 28-20 (12-12)
Sun: Norway - Spain 24-26 (14-12)

Olympic Draw: Unbalanced
Group A:
Hungary
Ukraine
Greece
China
Brazil
Group B:
France
South Korea
Spain
Denmark
Angola
It's easily discernible that the quality of the two groups is different. Hungary and Ukraine will be hot favourites to finish top of group A. China could prove a hindrance, while Brazil and particular Greece are not likely to threaten the top nations.
Group B is more difficult to navigate. In addition to the reigning Olympic champions from Denmark, three of the top 5 nations from the World Championship in Croatia are present. And even the supposedly weak team, Angola, isn't a bad one.
But we have to keep the format in mind. The top four teams from each group book a quarterfinal date, while only one nation departs. With 80 percent moving on, the favourites in Group B will probably need to worry more about the next stage.
If they perform poorly in the group stage, they could run into either Hungary or the Ukraine. But unlike those two Group A nations, the top finishers in Group B actually stand a good chance of running into moderate opposition in the quarters.
In that sense, it can actually turn out to be quite an advantage to land in the more difficult of the groups.
If the tournament system had been a different one, for instance with only two teams making it out of the groups and into the semis, it would have been the opposite.

Petrovic Online
Finally! Bojana Petrovic has her own fan page.Currently, there are both Danish and English versions. And it appears as if a Serbo-Croatian version will appear as well.
Looks great so far, although I have one nit to pick:
"Bojana has 3 times been the loosing part in a Champions League final, so everybody understands that her biggest wish is to win Champions League."
Say what?
Culjak Badly Injured
Bad news for Podravka and the Croatian national team. The big-hitting left back Marija Culjak was injured Wednesday in a league match against Osijek, and early examinations show that she tore her medial collateral ligament - a critical knee injury that requires months of recovery. In addition she suffered damage to her meniscus. If that wasn't enough, doctors seem to think that her anterior cruciate ligament is in trouble as well. Further examination will reveal that.
The injury to Culjak puts Podravka's national championship campaign in slight jeopardy ahead of the playoffs where especially Lokomotiva Zagreb could harass them. Culjak will also be missing for Croatia's Euro 2004 qualification matches against Bulgaria.
Lejeune Disappointed with Viborg
French star Leila Lejeune signed a contract with FCK Handball when Viborg HK and the Copenhagen club met on Wednesday in the league.
The left back has been disappointed with the treatment she has received by Viborg HK over the last couple of weeks, she confides to Ekstra Bladet.
"When it emerged that I had received an offer from FCK and perhaps wanted to accept it, I was summoned for new negotiations with Viborg. My agent came up here from France, and since the previous weekend the club and I have considered the situation.
"But when push came to shove, and Viborg had found another player, they didn't want me. I think they should have said so immediately. I have been confused about the situation, and under those circumstances it's hard to play well," Lejeune says to Ekstra Bladet.
Viborg's managing director, Peter Cassöe, has this laconic response:
"We neither found room nor money for Leila. That's all I have to say about this matter."

Report: Hammerseng Leaves Ikast
Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet reports Friday that Norwegian national team player Gro Hammerseng is returning to Norway after just one season in Ikast.
Her contract was expected to run for three years, but Hammerseng is said to be homesick.
Unlike Ekstra Bladet, Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang got hold of the backcourt player. She denies to comment on the newspaper article, but makes a brief statement:
"I have a three-year contract with Ikast."
Nordstrand's coach Ivica Rimanic confirms that they have been in touch with Hammerseng.
"She would be a perfect player for us. We were in contact with her in February, but haven't spoken to her for the last month. She'll contact us if something happens."

Hoffmann a Randers Target
Randers HK are expected to lose German keeper Christine Lindemann next seaon. They are now looking to the relegated Fox Team Nord for a replacement in the shape of Olga Hoffmann, according to B.T.
The 27-year-old Hungarian has spent three seasons with Fox and is a former Ferencváros and national team player.

Olympics: Tonje Not Likely
The chances of seeing Tonje Kjärgaard put a definite end to her career at the Olympic Games are slim. National team coach Jan Pytlick confirms to B.T. that he has a long-standing agreement with the former Denmark captain that she can join the squad for Athens if injuries arise.
But currently the top three choices as line player are in good health - and even they can't be secure to go.
"I haven't yet decided if I pick two or three pivots. But it could end up with two because we can only take 15 players with us to the Olympic Games," Pytlick tells B.T.
The national coach is beginning to worry about the playmaker position. Rikke Hörlykke has just undergone shoulder surgery and needs time to recover, Kristine Andersen is bothered by a mysterious back injury, and Camilla Andersen has put an end to her national team career.

Karen Brödsgaard the Replacement
One goes out, one comes in. Karen Brödsgaard was officially announced as the replacement for Tonje Kjärgaard at the same press briefing.
Currently on a loan spell in Larvik, the national team player signed a three-year contract with Ikast. Failing to reach a new agreement with Viborg based on various discrepancies, Brödsgaard looked to the local rivals from Ikast-Bording instead.
And found a new employer.

End of the Road for Tonje
Ikast captain Tonje Kjärgaard announced her retirement from handball at the end of the season at a press briefing Wednesday. The 29-year-old wishes to dedicate more time to her concluding studies in microbiology and thought it was the right time to call it quits.
After 12 years in Ikast, the staunch pivot has shown a great dedication to the club and will always be intertwined with its rise to the top of Danish and European club handball.
In addition to four Danish Cup victories, Kjärgaard has won nine Danish Championship medals, five bronze, three silver, and one of gold - in 1998. On the European stage, she helped Ikast to triumphs in the Super Cup and the City Cup in 1998 as well as the EHF Cup in 2002.
The former Denmark captain celebrated her greatest achievements with the national team where she was a fixed feature from 1994 to 2000. Playing 139 matches, she won top honours at five major championships, including double Olympic gold.
In a somewhat surprising announcement, coinciding with the revelation of the retirement, she has made herself available for the Olympic team in case Jan Pytlick's current side is hit with injuries on the pivot position.
That would indeed be a fitting goodbye.

Volgograd Coach Shocks Nordstrand
Nordstrand 2000 have filed a report with the European Handball Federation to complain about the behaviour of Akva Volgograd's coach Levon Akapian.
They accuse him of hitting and kicking his players during the EHF Cup match in the past weekend in Oslo.
"I was at the court, I think it was the middle of the first half, and there I noticed that he repeatedly hit one of the girls in the face," Nordstrand's star wing Monica Sandve explains to Norwegian TV 2.
Next to her handball career, Monica Sandve works as a police officer.
"I get reports on my job involving much milder cases than what we witnessed here in our arena Saturday."
During the traditional post-match banquet the Volgograd players were not allowed to eat anything except for some fruits.
"The girls sat quietly without saying a word. When we left I suppose they were loudly reprimanded," keeper Heidi Tjugum adds.
TV2/Nettavisen has put a video online that purportedly documents the charges made by the Nordstrand camp. However, both registration and payment is needed to view it, and it appears you need to live in Norway.
Maybe Monica Sandve should have arrested the guy. That could perhaps have taught him some respect for female handball players.
In any case, the club should let him go immediately as he's an embarrassment to both himself and Dinamo-Akva if they endorse this type of behaviour. The Russian school of coaching is indeed a different one.
But even the "Howling Bear" of volleyball, Nikolai Karpol, never went so far to my knowledge.

Croatia Goes for Kordi
Exiting already in the preliminary round, the World Championship on home soil was a disappointment for Croatia. But now it's time to give it another go. And a good place to start is with a new coach.
After months of deliberation the Croatian Federation has put former assistant coach Zdenko Kordi in charge of the national team. He replaces Zeljko Tomac who bid farewell after the World Championship.
Kordi's assistant coach will be Goran Mrdjen who is coaching Podravka Vegeta as well as the junior national team. The two of them are planning to put together a young team, mostly made up of women born in 1979 and later along with a few older and more experienced players.
The team will gather for the first time on April 5th to begin the preparation for the Euro 2004 qualification matches against Bulgaria. With this generous draw in mind, the new Croatian side looks destined to get some championship experience under their belts in December.

Camilla: No Olympics
Camilla Andersen has played her last match for Denmark. The Slagelse captain will not be making a comeback ahead of the Olympic Games in Athens after more than three years' absence.
"Her national team career is over, and that is Camilla Andersen's final decision," reads a statement from her manager Ole Frederiksen which was published Tuesday.
After the disappointing result at the World Championship, coach Jan Pytlick had vowed to ask if Andersen would rejoin the team. The 30-year-old said she would consider the offer in the spring.
Camilla Andersen made her national team debut when she was 18. She has played 194 matches and scored 846 goals in the Danish shirt.
The blonde playmaker has won two Olympic gold medals, one World Championship, and two European Championships. She has made the All Star team at three major championships.
While the national team career is over, the club career is not. Her manager made it clear that she will continue in Slagelse next season.

Viborg: Chao Zhai Signed
Viborg HK are making their intentions for next season ever clearer. Today the club declared on its web site that it has signed Chao Zhai of Randers HK on a three-year deal.
The Chinese World Handball Player 2002 leaves Randers prematurely as she had more than two years left of her engagement with the club. Viborg explain that they have been negotiating with Randers for a while about the size of the transfer fee.
Chao Zhai scored 205 goals in 22 matches last season, a feat only bettered by Camilla Andersen. This year she is also second on the list of top scorers, only a few goals behind Bojana Petrovic.
The surprising move comes just a few days after qualified speculation that Tanja Milanovic, another Randers star, is headed for Ikast. These transfers could very well stem from the fact that the club has had a tumultuous season.
The firing of coach Morten Arvidsson in January had little backing in the squad and was seen as another sign of an erratic club management.
Viborg's hiring of Chao Zhai makes it even more likely that Leila Lejeune is indeed leaving the club in favour of FCK Handball.

Cano Returns to Spain
Stephanie Cano makes a quick return to Spanish handball after the Olympic Games. The French world champion abandons Slagelse in favour of Alsa Elda Prestigio, the club declared on its web site today.
The two parties reached the agreement when the team from Elda visited Copenhagen to play FCK in the Cup Winner's Cup this weekend. The right wing has so far had the majority of her first and only season in Slagelse spoiled by a pesky foot injury.

Kharlanyuk's Tragedy
Former Ukranian national team player Larysa Kharlanyuk was diagnosed with a serious illness when she returned to her native country after a spell in Podravka Vegeta in Croatia. She has since spent every penny earned in her professional handball career on treatment. But she will need a lifesaving operation that is both expensive and complicated.
With the help of her former teammate in Podravka, Irina Maljko, the 28-year-old Ukranian is now trying to raise money for the operation.
The line player Kharlanyuk took part in the World Championship in 2001 and the European Championship a year later.
The specific nature of her illness is not known to me. Nor are the chances of recovery.
Hörlykke Finished in GOG
Rikke Hörlykke has played her last match in GOG. The national team playmaker, who is going to Slagelse from next season, was taken to hospital during yesterday's EHF Cup quarterfinal in Gyõr after a harsh tackle.
Hörlykke dislocated her shoulder and broke the collar bone. She will be going through surgery Tuesday, according to GOG's assistant coach Peter Bruun Jörgensen.
With Hörlykke out, GOG's already tiny hopes of making the playoffs look doomed. But, fortunately for GOG, Pearl van der Wissel is ready for the two final matches against Ikast and Slagelse. The Dutch youngster was also taken to hospital in Gyõr as she started to hyperventilate following a blow to the stomach.
Gyõr received 11 two-minute suspensions in the first leg in Gudme, and Peter Bruun Jörgensen thinks that the Hungarians played even rougher in the second meeting.
"I have never experienced any thing like this in women's handball. They played hard in Gudme, but this was almost brutal. And they were allowed to do it. This was men's handball," Peter Bruun Jörgensen told DR Fyn.
GOG lead the fairplay standings (as of February 29) in Denmark - in front of Viborg and Ikast. Slagelse are dead last.

Poltoratskaya: Serious Injury
A full diagnosis is yet to be made on Irina Poltoratskya's knee, but initial tests have revealed that the Russian playmaker has a severe problem.
A knee specialist has detected serious damage to the meniscus and the cartilage, making the prospects of Poltoratskaya returning to a handball court any time soon quite bleak.
Knowing of the injury, Slagelse signed a contract with Poltoratskaya in the hopes of getting it fixed in Denmark.

Field for the Big Three
The drawing of lots will take place on Tuesday in the beautiful Austrian capital. Not in the majestic Schloss Schönbrunn - at least not this time around - but at the EHF headquarters in Hoffingergasse 18. Which is not synonymous with Gunnar Prokop's office address I can assure you.

Fridrikas Keeps Going
Ausra Fridrikas, perhaps the greatest female handball player of all-time, has decided to extend her long and glorious career with another season in Slagelse, it was announced on Sunday.
"I had my doubts about continuing. I'm not particularly young any longer. And there is no reason to hide that the body hurts now and then after matches and practice. But I basically feel that my physical condition is okay. The most important thing is that the joy of playing is still present.
And when that's the case, why stop now? Having handball as both a hobby and a job is still something I consider to be a privilege," the 36-year-old Fridrikas tells Ekstra Bladet on Sunday.

CL: Nyberg Bombs Larvik into Semis
Larvik will make it at least one stage further than in last season's Champions League when they were ousted by Krim Ljubljana in the quarters. The Norwegian champions reached the semis today after defeating Kometal Gjorche Petrov 33-27 (20-12) at home in Bergslihallen. The Macedonians won the first encounter 25-22 and go out 55-52 combined.
Following her 9 goals in Skopje, Katja Nyberg had already been identified as the danger woman in the Larvik side by the Kometal camp. And the native Finn lived up to her reputation with 11 goals in the return match.
But even more crucial was perhaps keeper Lene Rantala who made 21 saves in total. Particularly the first half was a frustrating experience for the Kometal attackers as they scrambled to pass the veteran goalie.
Larvik took control early with a 7-2 lead and steadily increased the advantage throughout the first 30 minutes. Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth made a successful return with her quick feet, while Haarsaker's tricky shots consistently fooled the opposition.
With a 20-12 lead at half-time, Larvik's progression looked like a certainty. But in the second half, the Macedonians went for a more aggressive defense to stress the fluent Norwegian attack. Aided by a resurgency from keeper Gordana Naceva, this brought the visitors within 5 goals, 22-17.
Larvik soon increased the lead again, but never managed to shake the Kometal side off completely. Not the least because of Oksana Raykhel who fought valiantly on the left wing. Todorovska on the right wing and Velkova on the line also contributed to the strong second half for Kometal, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Partenko occasionally did the right thing, while Buyanova clearly didn't have one of her best days. Perhaps because Larvik offered her special attention, sometimes in the shape of a special guard, for the entire 60 minutes. Coach Portnoy tried a great deal of solutions on right back without much success.

CL: Early Decision for Slagelse
The second quarterfinal tie between Slagelse FH and Ferencváros came to a quick resolution in Bröndby-hallen. After the first 30 minutes, Slagelse were virtually guaranteed a berth in the semifinals with a thundering 19-8 lead.
Ferencváros recuperated somewhat late in the second half, but couldn't prevent Anja Andersen's team from earning a 32-25 (19-8) victory that puts it through 60-55 on aggregate after the 28-30 loss in Budapest.
The first half was as awkward as it could possible get. With the Hungarian attention firmly focused on Petrovic, Anja Freser found room for three early goals for the home team.
But Ferencváros kept up the pace well. Mainly thanks to a dubious defensive idea that saw Slagelse marking out Timea Tóth. This provided space for the Hungarian backcourters, Edina Rábai and Margit Pádár, to find Lucia Uhrakova on the 6m circle.
At 17 minutes, Ferencváros were in close contact with the hosts after a curious goal from the half-way line that caught Rikke Schmidt off-guard as she was having a conversation with her defense. But the visitors could easily have been ahead as they had already missed two 7-meters at this point, courtesy Kocsik.
What followed was a complete breakdown for András Nemeth's side. For the next 12 minutes, Slagelse scored 10 unanswered goals to go up 18-7, effectively shutting down the match. Veronika Kovács' 2-minute suspension was part of the reason as it got Slagelse going.
But swapping in Ausra Fridrikas for Camilla Andersen also proved useful as the aging Austrian opened up Ferencváros' defense with her uncompromising commando raids. After some early difficulties, Bojana Petrovic took full advantage by blasting one goal after another past a hapless Timea Sugár.
At the same time, the Hungarian attack found itself in massive problems against a lower-placed Slagelse defense. This resulted in a number of technical errors and wishy-washy shots. And Slagelse could unleash their counter-attacking wave which has been struggling lately.
The home side extended the lead to 26-13 after 41 minutes before going down a gear or two. This gave Ferencváros the opportunity to make the end result a more flattering one. Especially Timea Tóth had an easy time passing Rikke Schmidt and helped bring down Slagelse's lead with 6 goals.
Camilla Andersen was obviously pleased about the result but expressed some disappointment with the team's performance in the second half. She told TV 2 that Dunaferr was the team she would most like to avoid in the semifinal as she considered them to be stronger than Krim Ljubljana.
When asked if Larvik was her "dream opponent", she stated that she would prefer Kometal Skopje instead.

The EHF Cup is turning into a Norwegian exhibition. Vaag Vipers followed the lead of Nordstrand by overwhelming Eurostandard Gjorche Petrov 33-24 (17-14) in Skopje.

Challenge Cup: Disaster Strikes Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen's 11-goal advantage from the first leg melted like chocolate on a hot summer day in Poland. In a stunning turn-around, Vitaral Jelfa Jelenia Goria swamped the Germans 27-16 (14-8) in the return leg to progress in the Challenge Cup on more away goals after a 45-45 split decision on aggregate.
Agata Wypych scored the decider with her 12th goal 25 seconds before the buzzer went off. Vitaral Jelfa join Remin Deva and Vestmannaeyjar at the semifinal stage.

CL: Dunaferr Seal Success
Dunaferr became the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the Champions League with a 29-24 (16-11) win over Buducnost Monet on Saturday in Dunaújváros. Having won 31-26 in Podgorica, the Hungarians go through with a convincing 60-50 on aggregate.

Nordstrand 2000 reached the semifinals of the EHF Cup after a massive 33-23 (16-12) victory against Dinamo-Akva Volgograd in Oslo. The first leg in Russia ended in a 26-26 draw, which means that the Norwegians made it through with 59-49 in total.
CWC: FCK Flatten Elda Again
FCK Handball scored another 8-goal victory against Alsa Elda Prestigio in the return leg in Copenhagen. The Spaniards were beaten 33-25 (15-9) after a one-sided encounter and depart from the Cup Winner's Cup with a combined loss of 61-45.
Morten Soubak's side sagely repeated the 6-0 defensive variation that had proved decisive in the first clash, effectively controlling the strong line player Diana Box.
This gave a bit more space for Susana Fraile to fire off her cannon, but in the first half the Spanish left back took 9 shots and only passed a splendid Christina K. Pedersen in FCK's goal twice.
The attacking misfortunes of Elda Prestigio were swiftly punished by the apt counter-attacks of the Copenhagen side, and the tie was decided when FCK moved from 11-8 to 15-8.
Leading 15-9 at half-time, playmaker Christina Krogshede started displaying her offensive capabilities in the second half and FCK soon jumped to an 18-9 advantage.
With less than 10 minutes to go, it looked even worse for the Spanish side as the home team had pulled ahead to 30-18. Only Isabel Ortuno on right back was a threat from the backcourt for Elda.
When FCK opted for a 5-1 solution in defense, Diana Box took advantage and helped cut down on the Danish lead to salvage a more respectable final result.
National team pivot Camilla Thomsen (picture) and Co. now move into the semifinals with plenty of confidence after two comfortable defeats of the Spanish champions. Thomsen said before the match that Metropole Metz was her favoured opponent at the next stage as she wouldn't mind a trip to France.
Ferrobus Mislata vs. Ikast-Bording EH and Metz Metropole vs. Mar Valencia Osito L'Eliana are both played Sunday. Kristine Andersen will be missing from the Ikast side as she needs rest to recover from injury, while Mar Valencia will have to do without Morskova who has work duties elsewhere.

Challenge Cup: Dortmund Fall in Deva
In the meeting between the 2002 and 2003 Challenge Cup winners, it was the former that had the last laugh. Universitatea Remin Deva defeated Borussia Dortmund 33-29 (16-14) in Romania in the second leg to move on 60-58 on aggregate.
CWC: Hypo First Semifinalist
Hypo NÖ won the return leg in Vác 30-26 (14-11) to go through to the semifinals of the Cup Winner's Cup with a commanding 60-41 on aggregate.New signing Anda Bilobrk continues to show her value for the multi-national Austrian club, this time scoring 8 goals. Sladana Dronic added 6.
After trailing most of the match, the Hungarians were up 21-19 at 45 minutes. Not the least thanks to Auguszta Mátyás who put in 15 goals. But that - as well as 22 suspension minutes for Hypo - didn't prevent the Austrians from running past the home side in the end.
Hypo had their new Russian keeper, Olga Sanko, with them on the trip. She was signed in Rostov-Don, likely at the advice of Yuri Klimov, and was put on court to replace Ganna Kryvoruchko in the second half.
Hypo boss Gunnar Prokop had requested a high level of security for the match, following a number of altercations and disputes between the Austrian powerhouse and Hungarian clubs.
In the first match in the Südstadt, the Vác players had some of their belongings stolen from their locker room during training. And a Hungarian journalist reportedly punched a Hypo volunteer in the face. Maybe the same guy who harassed Anja Andersen?

Super Cup: Format and Venue Change
The EHF Executive Committee has decided to change the format of the European Club Championship, the so-called Super Cup. Six clubs will be allowed to enter this year, and the tournament has been merged with the successful Leipzig Masters which takes place between Christmas and New Year.
The tournament date for 2004 is from the 27th to the 30th of December. Very close to the Champions League, of course. The clubs are obliged to participate.

Champions League: Preview and Predictions
Dunaferr SE - Buducnost Monet (Sat 18:00)(31-26)
Psychologically, Dunaferr have already made it through to the semifinals. They will do enough to win, but a lopsided victory should not be expected. Podgorica will have a hopeless task in front of them, but they will unquestionably try hard. If nothing else, then to leave the tournament on an up-beat note. But they will need a wider variety of players than Knezevic and Kolakovic to shine in order to stand a chance. Puchacz to name one.

Krim Ljubljana - Lada Togliatti (Sun 18:30)
(21-24)
A tricky proposition. The Russians kept the title holders down to just 21 goals in Togliatti, and Trefilov's forces know how to excel in enemy land. Krim already have three defeats behind them in this year's tournament, but there's massive potential in the side if they hit the right note. In Ljubljana, they will have no other option than to do just that. Lada are too strong in defense to be completely run over, but their Champions League quest will come to an end on Sunday.

Slagelse FH - Ferencvárosi TC (Sun 12:00)
(28-30)
Perhaps one shouldn't read too much into the Wednesday draw with Randers. Slagelse could have easily dropped both one and two points earlier in the season against the same team, and no one would have considered them to be in a crisis. But as the draw came only a few days after the defeat in Budapest, it's understandable that such talk arises. On the other hand, Slagelse will now be anything but complacent after two serious warnings signs. The return of Stephanie Cano on right wing can also be quite significant. The fast Ferencváros side can pull this off if they show the same kind of fighting spirit and self-confidence in Copenhagen as they did in Budapest. But it will be a tall order.

Larvik HK - Kometal Gjorche Petrov (Sun 16:15)
(22-25)
Three of the four ties promise to be really exciting. This is one of them. Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth appears to be making a surprisingly quick return after hurting her shoulder. Larvik's odds will improve if she is fresh on Sunday. The Kometal side has received an interesting supplement from the second team in the shape of right back Alegra Loki, but generally speaking their injury difficulties are a lot worse than the ones affecting Larvik. Olga Buyanova will need to play a superb game if the Macedonians are to hang on to their 3-goal lead. If Larvik first get going in Bergslihallen, noone can stop them. I have a feeling they will run away to a comfortable victory in the second half.

European Cups: Preview and Predictions
EHF CupGyõri Graboplast ETO KC - GOG/Gudme (Sun 18:00)
(26-28)
GOG were beaten into a pulp by Ikast on Wednesday, and two goals are an insignificant margin. GOG will probably focus a lot of their attention on Ibolya Mehlmann who was a nightmare for keeper Mette Iversen in the first encounter, but this could leave more room for Görbicz in the center and Dokic on the line.

Eurostandard Gjorche Petrov - Vaag Vipers (Sat 19:00)
(33-41)
The young Eurostandard side will play a close game with the Vipers, but they are too inexperienced to threaten the 8-goal advantage of the solid Norwegians. Besides, Alegra Loki went to Kometal. The Lunde sisters will need to do better in Skopje than they did in Kristiansand, though.
Eurostandard by 1
Rapid CFR Bucuresti - Viborg HK (Sun 15:15)
(29-30)
Bucuresti celebrated the fine result in Viborg, but only half the work is done. Viborg will be better prepared this time - Nicolas was constantly fooled by lobs in the first leg for instance - but they are up against a quality side with a very strong first line-up. Especially if Varzaru is ready again after hurting her foot. This should go down to the wire, but two disappointing performances from Viborg in a row are perhaps a bit unrealistic.
Viborg by 2
Nordstrand 2000 - Dinamo-Akva Volgograd (Sat 17:00)
(26-26)
Nordstrand have many more options available to them than the Volgograd squad which revolves heavily around Elena Polenova. After the first meeting, Nordstrand should have learned enough about the tall Russian to secure victory in Oslo. But Volgograd, who are just one point behind Lada in the Russian Championship, will not go down easily.

Ferrobus will earn a symbolic victory at home in Valencia. Mostly thanks to their North African-style defense.

FCK Handball - Alsa Elda Prestigio (Sat 14:15)
(28-20)
The Spaniards had no reply to FCK's 6-0 formation in the first meeting, and Soubak will surely try and continue where they left off. In addition, Elda are awful outside Spain.

For all sakes and purposes, Hypo are already through. Their effort in Hungary could reflect that, allowing Vác some consolation after the disaster in Austria.

Report: Milanovic to Ikast
Handballsite.com yesterday raised the very interesting possibility of Tanja Milanovic abandoning Randers HK in favour of Ikast/Bording EH.
Milanovic has been one of the most successful new arrivals in Denmark this season, and it's not farfetched to imagine that the management in Ikast has the Serbian left back in mind as a replacement for Narcisa Paunica who is moving to Aalborg.

Hörlykke Caps
Champagnebold.dk has uploaded a boat load of video caps from an appearance by Rikke Hörlykke on a Danish gameshow. Her task was to make a quick buck (or krone) as a salesperson. At page 7, she runs into Camilla Andersen.
Forgotten Fan Pages
I didn't know until yesterday, but it seems that Timea Tóth has a fan page. Looking at the page, it's safe to say that she unequivocally has a fan page.
And blimey, the Dunaferr pivot Anita Kulcsár also has a site dedicated to her. The Romanian player Cristina Gisca from Cornexi-Alcoa has also attracted a following on the web. You may need to activate your pop-up stoppers unless you are into casino ads.
I'll put them into the link section.

Slagelse Drop First Point
Slagelse FH dropped the first point of the season in the Danish league in round 20. The champions were held to a 27-27 (16-17) draw by Randers at home in Antvorskovhallen.
In this illustrious meeting between Anja Andersen and Kjersti Grini on the coach benches, Slagelse looked to be on cruise control in the first half. With a trimmed Stephanie Cano back in the side after injury, the favourites jumped to a 10-5 lead against a weakened Randers side.
Pivot Tatiana Silitch and right back Steluta Luca watched from the outside, and it looked far from obvious that the remaining Randers squad could offer much resistance to the star-studded Slagelse outfit. But they most certainly did.
Headed by Tanja Milanovic on left back, Randers steadily clawed themselves back into the match and even took the lead at half-time.
They continued where they left off in the second half and looked to be on the way to victory when they went ahead 23-20. In addition to Milanovic, the versatile Laura Danielsen (picture) and Christine Lindemann in goal were a major reason for the surge.
But a change to 5-1 in defense and an improved Rikke Schmidt in Slagelse's goal suddenly made life difficult for the visitors.
After a 10-minute drought and 6 goals from Slagelse, the match appeared to have been turned upside down again. But the home side kept going in the last 10 minutes as Slagelse started to waver.
And with 10 seconds to go, Tanja Milanovic broke trough to score the equalizer. Slagelse launched a blitz attack, but Anja Freser's seemingly match-winning shot was launched at the same time as the buzzer went.
Slagelse can still fulfill the ambition of going through the league undefeated, but the chances of a perfect score is gone. The draw must be particularly worrisome as none of the first-tier players were spared. A heavy toll was exerted on Bojana Petrovic who replied by scoring 10 goals.
This puts her in the first place on the top scoring list for the league with 163 goals. Two more than Chao Zhai who settled for 5 goals in the direct encounter between the two shooting stars.
With GOG's home loss to Ikast, something will have to go awfully wrong if Randers are to miss the playoffs - where they are headed for another clash with Slagelse. Earlier this season, Randers sensationally wasted a 4-goal lead in less than 3 minutes and eventually lost. Against Slagelse.
Wednesday night was pay back time.

Ikast Dismantle GOG
A seasonal record of 1,850 spectators showed up in Gudme to support the home team in its quest to reach the playoffs. But their hopes of a victory evaporated already in the first half when Ikast charged ahead to a 21-10 lead.
GOG recuperated from the humiliation by winning the second half 18-14, but it was all too little and too late. Krisztina Nagy compiled 7 goals, and it's becoming a bit of a mystery why GOG haven't made a move to extend the contract with the right back.
Narcisa Paunica continued her recent improvement with 7 goals for the visitors, while Gro Hammerseng stacked up the same number.
The Ikast side will undoubtedly be brimming with confidence ahead of the return match in Valencia against Ferrobus Mislata, while GOG will have further reason to dread the encounter with Gyõr in the weekend.

Pálinger Chatting Away
Katalin Pálinger recently participated in a chat session with the news site [origo] where she offered some insights into her handballing career and plans for the future. Among other things. The Dunaferr keeper denied the existence of a "Hungarian curse" that doomed the national team to lose the big finals in the crucial moments. And she had a few words to say about national team coach Lajos Mocsai who has not excaped criticism for some of his decisions in those finals.
"He is absolutely a good coach from a professional view. He has everything about this sport at his fingertips. From a human viewpoint, he also tries to strike the right note with the team. Many people hold him responsible for the two lost finals. I'd hereby like to tell them that you still have to get through to the finals somehow."
Pálinger predictably aroused the attention of a number of clubs after her performance in Croatia - here she confirms that Krim and Slagelse were among the interested parties.
"I got four offers from Denmark. From FCK, Randers, Slagelse, the fourth one's name doesn't come to my mind. And from Ljubljana."
The Hungarian goalie turned down the foreign interest and extended her engagement with Dunaferr. On the private front, she also has a serious engagement - to an ice hockey player. They plan to marry and perhaps start a family in the not-so distant future.
"I'd like to carry through to the European Championships anyway, but I'm about to plan my family as well. My fiance and I wanted to marry this summer originally but the lack of free time prevents it."
The 25-year-old Pálinger hopefully has many years of handball left in her, but she is thinking ahead to life after handball.
"I don't want to continue after 33, but who knows maybe it will last one year more, or maybe I will retire earlier, I don't know yet. I pretend to be fortunate because it seems I can establish my future by getting an enterprise under way. My dream is a private kindergarden."
Despite her success in 2003, where she peaked at the World Championship, Pálinger was one of the most notable absentees from IHF's shortlist of candidates for the title of World Handball Player. Asked whether she deserved a place there, she replies:
"I've been asked about it many times. Just the fact that my name is brought up in regards to this issue is nice. Danish experts asked me who the hell in the Federation doesn't like me. I hope it is not a thing I have to worry about. By the way, I don't care about such extra awards."
The Hungarian Player of the Year 2003 will undoubtedly want to take on extra step up the podium this summer in Greece when the Athens Games gets underway, but she is cautious about raising the expectations too much:
"Everybody is talking about gold. After a World Championship like this, it is comprehensible. But we have to work a lot to get through to the final. Many things will have to work out for us to play as well again. What I can promise is that we will do our utmost."
The most infamous goal Pálinger ever conceded happened at the European Championship 2002 when Norway's Katja Nyberg scored on a free throw 3 meters from the half-way line to win the match. During the chat session she was asked if she is yet to have "digested" that peculiar incident:
"With difficulties, especially because I am reminded of that regularly. :)"

Picture Tips
FTC Handball has put two galleries from Ferencváros-Slagelse online. My favourite: Camilla does know how to defend as Olivia Kamper found out on this instance.
And Rosenkilde captured Ikast-Ferrobus Mislata for posterity. Favourite pick: Anna Ejsmont from 7-meters with Tonje Kjärgaard looking on.

Lamein Leaves Lützellinden
Diane Lamein leaves TV Lützellinden in favour of VFL Oldenburg next season, Handball-World reports. The Dutch national team player turned down offers from two other Bundesliga clubs as well as a Danish bidder. The flexible backcourter signed a one-year contract.
Podravka Ace Denmark-Bound
Podravka Vegeta's Romanian right back Gabriela Tanase (formerly Hobjila) has turned down a new contract with the Croatian champions and announced her departure from the club at the end of the season.Tanase will resume her career in Denmark where she apparently received an offer that was three times bigger than what Koprivnica had in mind. Her exact destination is unknown, but there are quite a few clubs that could use a lefty in their backcourt next season. Gabriela Tanase reverted back to her maiden name after divorcing her husband.
Marija Culjak could also vacate her spot in the Podravka squad next season. The strong left back is considering a switch to a French club after receiving a generous offer. Culjak is expected to make her decision in the next few days.
Keeper Sanela Knezvoic also has offers from abroad. As her contract doesn't expire until the end of 2004, such a move would require compensation to Podravka.
If that wasn't enough, Ionela Gilca - who scored 9 goals against Viborg in the EHF Cup last month in Croatia - also intends to leave if her boyfriend, a rugby player, does not find a new club in Croatia. He currently plays in France and the two "love birds" can't stand being apart.
Podravka Vegeta clearly have some gaps to fill for next season.

Norwegians on a Roll
The Norwegians clubs are making a mark in the EHF Cup and could very well reach the semifinals with two representatives. As previously mentioned, Vaag Vipers put 8 goals into Eurostandard at home. But that was not the only success story of the weekend. Nordstrand 2000 came home from Volgograd with a strong 26-26 (14-14) result against Dinamo-Akva.
Nordstrand have previously sent Randers packing after getting a draw in Denmark and again find themselves in a solid position for the return leg in Oslo. The Russians, however, should not be disregarded. In the last round they took out Buxtehude after winning by a greater margin in Germany than at home in the Palace of Sport of Trade Unions.
Heidi Tjugum (picture) was tremendously strong for Nordstrand, while national team back Anette Hovind Johansen fired up the attack. Volgograd's ace was predictably the young Elena Polenova who is perhaps the tallest player at international top level with her 198cm. She had a busy day and scored 9 times.
Nordstrand coach Ivica Rimanic expressed some disappointment that his team didn't get the win as they were ahead 26-24 in the end phase.

Slagelse Censuring Security Lapse
Anja Andersen notorious middle finger was once again on prominent display immediately after yesterday's loss to Ferencváros in Budapest. The recipient of Andersen's trademark gesture was a man who suddenly appeared next to Slagelse's bench in the seconds after the match.Slagelse's web site calls the incident a "scandalous security flaw" on part of the organizing club.
An excerpt:
"Ferencváros had simply forgot to post security guards at the team benches, and a spectator ran up and assaulted Slagelse FH's coach, Anja Andersen, verbally. The man had completely lost his temper and yelled Anja right in the face, presumably mocking the coach of SFH over the loss.
Anja replied in her well-known fashion, while representatives from Slagelse FH went between them - allowing Anja to get ínto the locker room. Subsequently, the man easily broke through the security precautions of the Hungarians and made it to the hallway next to Slagelse's locker room.
When asked by Slagelse staff what he was doing there, he explained that he was a reporter, but he would not identify himself. Neither with a press card or by stating his news medium. Before Slagelse could get hold of the sparse security team, he ran away and disappeared into the crowd.
Now that it did happen, we can fortunately say that it was only a verbal assault. But that kind of event must never, ever happen again. Of course, the incident has been reported to the European Handball Federation."
FTC-Slagelse: Player Evaluation
Ferencváros:
Timea Sugár (9): High level through 60 minutes from the crafty and nimble Ferencváros goaltender. You can't argue with 19 saves - or thereabouts. So don't.
Erika Kirsner (7): Almost completely absent in the first half, but showed up at decision time with her experience.
Timea Tóth (8): Great shot rate in attack - and an energetic performance in the central defense.
Eva Barna (7): Defensive left back in the 4-2 set-up. Controlled Freser well and charged successfully ahead in a couple of attacks.
Edina Rábai (8): Offered her playmaking abilities in the first half - and did so with plenty of self-confidence. Caught the Slagelse defense off guard several times.
Olivia Kamper (8): Followed up on Rábai's good work in the second half at the center position. Didn't try as hard individually, but tied the Hungarian attack together quite well.
Viktória Kocsik (7): The team's designated dart player - I mean penalty shooter. 6 of 7 went in. That's actually a bit below normal standard from this concise executioner.
Margit Pádár (6): A couple of technical mistakes and a few badly timed shots put a slight blemish on a generally useful performance from the right back.
Veronika Kovács (6): Exclusively defending right back - vis-a-vis Slagelse's left back Bojana Petrovic. Luckily escaped a suspension in the first half, but held fairly tight.
Katarina Mravikova (5): The quick-stepping Slovak initially missed too much from the wing, but woke up in the second half. Was however costly with a needless push in a Slagelse fastbreak at a decisive time, earning herself a suspension.
Lucia Uhráková (6): Massively important role in the central defense, but a subdued showing in attack for the pivot. Was red-carded for a face challenge on Camilla Andersen that did not appear as malign in slow-motion.
Slagelse:
Rikke Schmidt (4): A so-and-so performance for Slagelse's normal first choice. Didn't get her hands on much more than a couple of shots and was benched until late in the second half.
Marie Möller (5): Nothing ecstatic from her either - unlike in Skopje. Took a 7-meter from Kocsik - which isn't easy - but was out of it at the beginning of the second half when the home team galloped past Slagelse.
Ausra Fridrikas (3): Started on left wing - but tried three other positions. Didn't do much right in offense and was way too passive in defense. On the plus side, she did earn a penalty and scored a quite decent goal. And she should have attracted a least one suspension on a Hungarian player.
Bojana Petrovic (9): The highlight of the Slagelse side, kept her team in contention in the second half when all else failed. Took the iniative - and did something right with it consistently. Missed a few shots, but 10 clean goals speak for themselves. Plus a bunch of assists.
Camilla Andersen (4): The captain did well in the first half with some nice solo efforts. But kept shooting to no avail in the second. Won't have pleasant dreams about Sugár in the coming days.
Anne Loft (4): Caused more problems than she solved in defense. Swiftly gained two suspensions for crude tackles.
Anja Freser (6): A blast of a goal were among the three she landed. Also behind a few good assists, but generally went sideways too often, slowing down the Slagelse offense. Finished on a sour note with a dirty tackle on Timea Tóth in the last second.
Stine Frank (7): The right-hander started in the right side. Which emphasized Slagelse's wing problems as her shots were easily blocked by the Hungarian keeper from that angle. Did better when moved to left wing. Also added some fine fastbreaks conversions when it mattered most.
Mette Melgaard (5): Had a good begin to the match with a couple of early goals, but was soon benched.
Maja Mitrovic (5): Good defensive display, but the Croatian pivot failed to register on the radar in attack.

Dunaferr SE took the biggest step toward progression off all the Champions League quarterfinalists. In the jam-packed Moraca arena in Podgorica, the Hungarian champions pulled home a spectacular 31-26 (17-10) win over Buducnost Monet.
Many predicted this tie to be closest of the four, but it now takes a brave soul to bet against Dunaferr wrapping things up in Dunaújváros in a week's time.

Mehlmann Gets in GOG's Way
Ibolya Mehlmann disrupted GOG's plans of a resounding victory against Gyõri ETO KC in the home leg of the EHF Cup quarterfinal. GOG dipped the Hungarians 28-26 (15-16) on the finishing line, but two goals is hardly a comforting buffer ahead of the return match in Gyõr next weekend.
Anita Görbicz was dubbed by the media as the head act in the visiting side, but it was her national team colleagues Ibolya Mehlmann and Irina Sirina that stole the limelight in Gudme. The left-handed Mehlmann, collecting 9 goals in total, was the main reason for Gyõr's dominance in the first half, while Sirina prevented a bigger loss in the last 30 minutes.
GOG had a hard time getting accustomed to the aggressive Gyõr defense and found themselves trailing 7-11 after 19 minutes. But toward the end of the half, right back Krisztina Nagy began to find her range and passed Irina Sirina.
Behind 15-16 at half-time, the team from Gudme had the best begin to the second half with three consecutive goals. They opened up a three-goal lead, 20-17, but never managed to pull further ahead. When the suspensions started raining down on the visitors, quite deservedly, Irina Sirina proved a solid last bastion.
But the finishing of particularly left wing Monique Feiljen also left a lot to be desired, and the match was in equilibrium at 25-25 with just 4 minutes to go. A last-second goal from Ragnhild Aamodt sealed the 28-26 win for GOG.

Varzaru Seized by Nordstrand
Romanian wing star Cristina Varzaru will be reinforcing Nordstrand 2000 next season, according to a report by Handballsite.com.The 24-year-old right wing was part of the Rapid Bucuresti squad that almost upended Viborg yesterday. The technically well-equipped Varzaru hurt her wrist in the first half of that match, but the injury does not appear to be a serious one.
Ranked second in the league, Nordstrand have publicly proclaimed that they want to challenge Larvik's supremacy in Norwegian club handball in the coming years.
Besides hauling in Varzaru, Nordstrand are also close to signing Czech national team playmaker Lucie Fabiková, Handballsite.com reveals. Nordstrand already have the young Czech right back Iva Zamorska in their line-up.
Sorina Teodorovic has recently declared that she would like to move back to Oslo where she owns a house with her husband. With Nordstrand's buying spree in mind, she could also be a realistic subject.

Challenge Cup: Double German
Two of the three German clubs in the Challenge Cup collected a win yesterday. But Nürnberg will have more to celebrate about than Dortmund.
1. FC Nürnberg slam-dunked their Turkish counterparts from Anadolu University 40-26 (23-14) and should have no difficulty going through. Austrian veteran Barbara Strass landed 7 goals for the home team.
Borussia Dortmund defeated Romanian league leaders Universitatea Remin Deva 29-27 (14-14) in the meeting between the 2002 and 2003 Challenge Cup winners. A margin of two goals is hardly anything to cheer about for the Dortmunders with the return leg in western Transylvania awaiting them next weekend.
On Iceland, IB Vestmannaeyjar conquered their Croatian visitors from Brodosplit Vranjic 37-26 (18-12) and will be strongly favoured to reach the final four. Austrian Birgit Engl scored 8 times for Vestmannaeyjar, while Marija Hrgovic was immodest enmough to score 14 times for Brodosplit.

CWC: Szabo Stuns Valencia
Spain had three clubs in the quarterfinals of the Cup Winner's Cup. They will be lucky to get one through to the semfinals. Mar Valencia Osito L'Eliana continued the misery by losing 22-25 (11-12) at home to Metz Metropole.
Melinda Jacques Szabo whacked in 9 goals for the French visitors, and was strongly aided by 6 bombs from Tanja Medved who showed no mercy to her former teammates.
Cristina Mayo fielded all-time great Natalia Morskova, and she plunged 7 goals past Metz keeper Lenka Cerna. But that was far from enough to prevent the French side from getting a rock-solid advantage before their home game.

CWC: FCK Shine in Elda
FCK Handball took a gigantic leap in the direction of the Cup Winner's Cup semifinals when they surprisingly sacked Alsa Elda Prestigio 28-20 (14-12) in Spain.
The Spanish champions are normally a respectable home side and expectedly pulled ahead to 7-4 early in the match. But when the Copenhagen side changed to a 6-0 formation, Susana Fraile and cohorts came to a standstill and soon found themselves down 7-11.
They kept in contact with FCK at the interval, down only 12-14. But in the second half, they recieved a serious pounding in front of 1,200 spectators in Elda.
With Swedish wing prodigy Matilda Boson (7) and Dutch back Elly an de Boer (6/2) doing most of the damage, FCK build up a 28-18 lead. Alsa Elda Prestigio got two goals back before the 60-minute deadline, but a gap of 8 goals still seems hopeless for the return match.

Lada Draw First Blood
Lada Togliatti earned a humble, yet useful advantage before the return leg in Slovenia. The Russian champions defeated the title holders from Krim Ljubljana 24-21 (15-13) at home in the USC Olimp arena.
Not the biggest of margins, but the Russians are notorious for their away strength. 2,500 watched on as the big-hitting youngster Liudmila Postnova (8/3) and Anna Kareeva (6) led the attacking efforts of the home side.
But this was not a match won by an exuberant offensive, rather a nitty-gritty defensive effort. Keeping Krim Ljubljana down to just 21 goals is no easy feat. Only Tanja Oder (8/1) - the highly deserved World Handballer nominee - proved difficult to handle.

EHF Cup: Viborg Narrowly Escape Defeat
Viborg HK have an uphill struggle awaiting them in Romania next weekend. At home in Viborg Stadionhal, Rapid CFR Bucuresti were only beaten with the slimmest possible margin - 30-29 (14-15).Arriving in Denmark with just 11 players in the squad, the Rapid side was the clear underdog. But that was far from evident in the first half which was dominated by the visitors.
Instead of employing the anticipated 5-1 defense, the Romanians wisely opted for a fluent and aggressive 6-0 formation that Viborg had great difficulty penetrating.
Rapid deservedly held a 14-10 lead toward the end of the first half, but as the match got more messy with plenty of suspensions and an injury to right wing Cristina Varzaru, Viborg pulled back.
The home side looked to have gained better control of the proceedings in the second half and opened up a 23-20 gap with 10 minutes to go. But Rapid - and particularly Aurelia Bradeanu - had much more in store and never allowed to the favourites much breathing space.
The slim, but agile Rapid keeper Cristina Dugaru displayed some impressive leg work that frustrated Viborg pivot Olga Assink repeatedly.
"I dont't think we can play that badly one more time. Our fastbreaks suffered from a lack of consequence, and if someone wants to make an instructional video about how to make technical mistakes, they should get a copy of this match," Lotte Kiärskou told TV 2.

Viborg: Katrine Fruelund 9, Helga Nemeth 4, Lotte Kiärskou 4, Ann Grete Nörgaard 3, Henriette Mikkelsen 3, Leila Lejeune 3, Olga Assink 3, Rikke Skov 1.

Suspensions: 3x2m, 5x2m.
Attendance: 1,337.
NB: Penalties not included. Fruelund and Moise both scored on quite a few of them.
End of the Road for Tonje
Double Olympic champion Tonje Kjärgaard is in very the last months of her handballing career. The Ikast pivot is expected to retire after the season to focus on her concluding studies in microbiology. According to newspaper B.T., she has already made the decision and informed the club.
But it has not been confirmed by either party involed. A telltale sign is, however, Ikast's signing of Karen Brödsgaard.

Horsens: Eriksson Stays Put
Swedish star Aasa Eriksson is one of five players who have extended their contract with Horsens HK. Tine Ladefoged, who was promoted to the Danish national squad for the World Championship, also continues her stay.
Report: Savic Definite
Buducnost Monet's left wing Maja Savic has already signed a contract with Slagelse FH, DR Sporten reports.
CWC: Vác Whitewashed in Austria
Hypo NÖ practically waltzed into the semifinals of the Cup Winner's Cup after thrashing Váci NK 30-15 (16-10) in Maria Enzersdorf, making the return leg next weekend a mere formality.
The Hungarians scored just 5 goals in a drought of a second half. Vác's usual topscorer, Auguszta Mátyás, settled for 5 goals, 3 of which came from the 7-meter line. Berta and Hornyák both scored 3 times.
Gabriella Rotis (7) and Anda Bilobrk (7/4), the playmaker recently reacquired in Brodosplit, were Hypo's most prolific scorers. Generously aided by the Brazilian wings Alexandra Nascimento (6) and Daniela Piedade (5) who probably had a good deal of fastbreaks to work with.

Kometal Defeat Larvik
Kometal Gjorche Petrov obtained a 3-goal buffer before the return leg in Norway through a 25-22 (14-14) victory in Skopje over the Norwegian champions Larvik HK.The 2,000 in attendance witnessed the expected tight match in the Kale arena. After 50 minutes, the home side was pulling ahead to 22-18. But Larvik closed them down and came within one goal with 5 minutes to go before Kometal again opened up a gap.
Katja Nyberg hit the post on a penalty throw in the dying seconds that could have cut the Macedonian lead down to two goals. In a post-match interview with Norwegian radio, NRK, Larvik's coach Ole Gustav Gjekstad expressed disappointment with his team's attacking performance in the second half.
Kometal had the best begin to th
